Gaming for health

Description

Modern sedentary life is causing major health problems. I was a creative lead on an initiative at Digit London to create a game to keep everyone fit at work.

Players swipe their Oyster cards on RFID readers as they run upstairs to work and then log on to play City Peaks where London buildings are shown as mountains. The person to run fastest to the top wins the peak. The game is a personal one (beating your personal best scores) and also a group competition (beating your colleagues in the rankings). It was good fun.

The game got applause in magazines like Fast Company:

Metro said it was a great way for office-bound Londoners to stay active. “The subtlety is in the balance it strikes between those motivated by personal improvement and those who like a bit of competition to get them going”.
